Shotgun SMiLE

A Makeshift

* Note: this is what I call a "shotgun" SMiLE, in which you get a makeshift SMiLE out of official releases. I borrowed the basic idea from David Beard's article in the March 1997 SMiLE Edition of Endless Summer Quarterly, even though I disagree with some of the tracks he uses. It is no way intended to be a definitive SMiLE! Like a shotgun blast, you hit about half of the target...

What we DO know are the titles of the songs intended for the album:

  • Do You Like Worms
  • Wind Chimes
  • Heroes and Villains
  • Surfs Up
  • Good Vibrations
  • Cabin Essence
  • Wonderful
  • I'm In Great Shape
  • Child Is the Father of the Man
  • The Elements
  • Vega-tables
  • The Old Master Painter

  • * Note: the tracks highlighted in yellow have never been released officially.

    SIMPLE LINEUP:

Using only the GV Box set, the Wild Honey and Smiley Smile CD's, you can create a makeshift SMiLE:

  • Our Prayer [GV Box set - CD 2, track #18]
  • Heroes and Villains [GV Box set - CD 2, track #24]
  • Do You Like Worms [GV Box set - CD 2, track #25]
  • Wonderful [GV Box set - CD 2, track #21]
  • Mama Says (Makeshift-I'm In Great Shape) Wild Honey CD, track #11]
  • Heroes and Villains (Pt.2) [GV Box set - CD 2, track #20]
  • Cabinessence [GV Box set - CD 2, track #22]
  • Good Vibrations [GV Box set - CD 2, track #17]

    Makeshift-Elements:

  • Vegetables [GV Box set - CD 2, track #26]
  • Wind Chimes [GV Box set - CD 2, track #21]
  • Fall Breaks and Back to Winter [Smiley Smile CD, track #3] (Not really "Fire", but has a similar bass line)
  • I Love to Say Da Da [GV Box set - CD 2, track #27]

  • Surf's Up [GV Box set - CD 2, track #28] (Brian's "demo")
  • Surf's Up [GV Box set - CD 3, track #28]

  • And the lord spoketh unto Brian...."FINISH SMiLE!!!"
